Overview
Centrism is not defined by compromise or moderation, it is considerate of them. It's about achieving common sense solutions that fit the current needs; support the public trust; serve the common good; and consideration of short and long term needs.
Mission Statement
To achieve common sense solutions that have at their heart, a tone of balance and fairness. To create a strong foundation for mainstream America that is not prone to undue influence from special interests or unfounded bias. To move away from character assassinations and toward solution oriented campaigns. To empower people, and the vote, with a strong position based on the strength of choice and the honor of well reasoned consideration. To formulate policies and solutions that regard short, medium and long term considerations at all levels.
Philosophical Overview
The Centrist Party supports candidates and public policies that enable the development of free enterprise, limited government and individual liberty, while protecting the common good of the public at large. The party shall endeavor to provide a solid foundation for candidates who abide the platform tenets, reject special interests, and keep the common good of the public first and foremost in policy determinations.
The Centrist Party will endeavor to support candidates
and legislation that provide reasonable and pragmatic solutions directed towards the public interest and the well being of the nation.
The Centrist Party opposes the abuse of government by representatives that offer
legislation that is self-serving or intended to aid in re-election
rather than in the public interest. It does not support candidates,
propositions or policies that enable the agenda of special interest
groups while sacrificing the common good of the general public and the national interest of the United States of America.
Initiatives, Propositions and Policy
The Centrist Party supports initiatives and propositions that support its mission
statement and goals, and will endorse or oppose such initiatives, propositions and policy based on these guidelines.
Government Reform
The Centrist Party is in favor of government and campaign reform with open primaries and redistricting rules devised and supervised by independent council.
Responsibility of Elected Officials
All elected officials have a responsibility to the public interest and the common good, not merely the good of those who voted for them. Common Sense in policy direction should be the rule.
Elected office is not to be taken advantage of for special interests. Campaign spin and promises should be the gauge of impeachment or recalls. Whistle-blowing regarding lying or deceipt of any kind, by an elected official regarding intention and motive as well as deceiving the public regarding public issues shall be encouraged and protected.
Special Interest Groups
Industry PAC’s, unions, religious groups and extreme political ideology are all considered to be special interest groups. The Centrist Party is opposed to the undue influence of special interest groups in the making of public policy.
Candidate Endorsement
The Centrist Party shall endorse candidates that abide the tenets of
the party and support the mission statement and goals of the party
Candidates must reject special interests and support the welfare of the
public interest.
Candidates should have a track record of working with people of different political backgrounds and must be able to provide letters of recommendation vouching for said track record, or have a record of broad spectrum endorsements not tied to special interests.
Mainstream America
Our hope lies in empowering the center. This gives Americans a more effective voice in government. Most Americans realize that our political system is becoming increasingly dysfunctional. Our nation needs leadership free of special interest control and long entrenched relationships. If we keep replacing the leaders and never fix the system, we are just putting new people in charge of a broken machine. We need checks and balances that are free of undue, or improper influence. We need political reform.
The only people that can accomplish this are the voters. We can't expect the foxes to guard the hen house and not raid the house when the desire becomes strong. The politicians can't fix this as easily as the people. But political awareness, strong enough to make a difference is not as easy as that. People must drive the effort. In our increasingly busy lives it becomes harder to do so. Nevertheless, this is the task at hand, and it is up to us to take it on.
American democracy has suffered because civic engagement has been replaced by consumerism where monetary profit is held above reasonable value exchange by virtue of perceived value. This means that median value, or what a product may reasonably be worth in a free and empowered competitive market, is over-exaggerated in order to return greater monetary wealth through deceptive practices and market manipulation.
Corporations strive to fulfill profit goals that are in a conflict of
interest with the needs and even the real value of the product and services they offer. The scandals of many of these corporate
practices have became increasingly manifest. Many examples of corporate corruption bubbled to the surface when
the illusion of profit was taken away, and stockholders suffered the
consequences of deception. These practices still occur in subtle ways
within the system and are not in line with the fair and equitable value exchange in
terms of the goods and services delivered to the people in a competitive market.
The economy is beginning to suffer from a lack of innovation that has built our economy. Multinational corporations are still driving into new markets but more and more, the people of America are left behind. Because political systems and legislative value tend towards protecting existing power structures rather than innovating and developing the intellectual capacity of the overall system, that is the people of America. Education needs to again become more than a priority, it needs to advance its own systems to meet the needs of the future of the people and the nation.
