Victory Lapse - Transocean Bonuses

by John P. Reisman last modified Aug 23, 2012 08:12 PM
(EDITORIAL NOTE) The Transocean executives responsible for the worst oil spill in U.S. history pat themselves on the back for an exemplary safety record.

Editors Note: Context is key of course and the corporate perspective is different than the public perspective... tending of course to favor the corporate perspective.

Transocean, the company responsible for the equipment failures that led to the explosions that killed 11 people and injured 16 others, and caused the oil spill that damaged habitat and coastline throughout the Gulf of Mexico, gave their CEO a bonus for having an exemplary safety record for the year.

This amazing feat of hyperbolic acrobatics was accomplished counting the actual number of incidents rather than the magnitude. As Jon points out the oil rig explosion that killed 11 people and injured 16 others, and the consequent aftermath, only counts as one incident and given the same weight as someone that was the victim of a serious paper cut.

Let it not be said that PR campaigns do not sometimes bias their position to generate shadows to mask their reality.

Oh, by the way, the CEO of the company received more than one million dollars as a bonus for having such a great year!!!
